Couples/Marriage Counselling

Relationships can be fulfilling, but they can also be very hard. Society would have us believe that fulfilling relationships should come naturally and that we all inherently know how to navigate our intimate relationships. Nothing can be further from the truth.

All intimate relationships are faced with hardships and challenging times. This does not mean your relationship is failing, but rather that you may need some guidance in developing the skills needed to negotiate this challenge.

Communication is a skill that can be learnt. Needs do change over time. At times we are faced with difficult decisions that may appear as a threat to relationships such as; will we immigrate, do we want to have children, and how much time we want to spend with our extended family.

couples therapy is a context where both partners can come together to explore their feelings, concerns, and needs in a non-judgmental manner. It’s a space where each partner’s perspective is valued and heard, fostering understanding and connection.

When working with couples, I see each person for an individual session before moving to the joint session. This allows me to get a clear picture of what is playing out within the relationship or marriage. Some of the challenges that couples may face include: dealing with conflict, feeling unfulfilled, infidelity, loss of an income, changes within the family system and trauma.
